Jared Amen was born in Sterling, CO. The son of Glenda and Ken Amen, Jared was surrounded by horses from the day he could walk. Jared's father, Ken was the director of equine sciences at Northeastern Junior College for nearly three decades. Ken's love of horses and teaching rubbed off on his son at a young age. Jared began showing at open shows at the age of 6, and from there showed through the ranks of 4-H and began showing at AQHA shows at 15. He also started training for the public at 15, starting colts for most of the local ranchers. He qualified for the AQHYA world show in '98, '99 and '00 in working cowhorse, calf roping, and breakaway roping. He had a top five finish in '99 and a top ten in '00. All of the horses he showed as a youth he trained under the direction of his father. Jared attended Northeastern Junior College for two years and then finished his degree in Ag Business at Colorado State University. Jared paid his tuition in college by training horses. During the summer between Jared's stay at NJC and CSU, he moved to Roswell, New Mexico to work for world famous rope horse trainer, David Avery. After college he went to work for Dwayn Hoelscher for 2 years to refine his skills with horses and the art of reining. He now owns and runs Amen Performance Horses.
